Recently, popular American game anchor Kay Sennett held a gift-giving event in Union Square, Manhattan, New York, attracting thousands of fans, mainly teenagers, and unexpectedly triggered a 3-hour riot.
The New York police said that the rally was not approved. After the riots, more than 60 people including Senat were arrested. Although Senat was released from police custody on the 5th, he still faces charges of inciting riots and illegal assembly and will appear in court on the 18th.
Senat did not obtain a large-scale assembly permit. The New York Police Department issued the highest level 4 warning and urgently mobilized about 1,000 police officers to the scene. The U.S. Department of Defense has also deployed drones to monitor the situation.
NYPD Commissioner Madre said that as the crowd grew, “people in the plaza began to commit acts of violence against the police and the public.” Some people walked around with shovels, axes and other tools, and even threw firecrackers and fireworks at the crowd and the police.
Aerial footage showed crowds running down the street and climbing onto plaza buildings, as yelling teenagers threw paint cans at car windows and set fire extinguishers on fire. Someone fell trying to climb into a moving car and another onto a city bus.
The police then blocked the entrance to the square and arrested the rioters. (produced by Zhou Jing)
