The Minden Wolves are expecting the Mönchengladbach Wolfpack in the duel of the wolves in the penultimate game of the season. Here is the preview.
The season is not over with the championship title
OWL-Sport. For the first time since winning the championship and the associated promotion to North Rhine-Westphalia’s highest league, the Regionalliga, the newly crowned Oberliga title holders Minden Wolves will be presenting themselves to their fans on Saturday. At 3 p.m., head coach Phil Gamble’s charges will face the Mönchengladbach Wolfpack in a duel of the wolves. The local wolf pack is hoping for lots of fans in the “Bessel-Kessel”.
They are assured of support from the local chimney sweeps, who, together with the cheerleaders from “Blue Heat”, want to prove themselves as lucky charms when the players come onto the field. For the hosts, the main goal is to successfully defend their previously spotless record before the last home game of the season on September 21st against the Wesseling Blackvenom, which marks the start of the month of the “Fight against Breast Cancer” of the BKK Melitta hmr, in order to then complete the “Perfect Season” with another success in a week.
“We had every reason to celebrate with the early title win, but the season will only be perfect if we win our two remaining home games,” said head coach Phil Gamble after the victory on the fourth-to-last match day of the championship round in Kachtenhausen. “In any case, the promotion at the end of August did not mean that we were not taking the rest of the season as seriously as the previous games.”
The third-placed team from Dortmund also felt this recently, as the Wolves stormed the Hoeschpark in sweltering temperatures and outclassed the Giants 48:0. And that despite Gamble’s team needing a full quarter of time to get going. Accordingly, the Wolves’ head coach was not entirely satisfied with the game. “We have to be there from the start. There is no reason to take it easy. I hope the boys have learned from the game.”
