Not a good game day for the quarterback superstars in the National Football League: Tom Brady with defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs both suffered defeats on Sunday evening (local time). The 44-year-old Brady lost with the Buccaneers against the Los Angeles Rams 24:34. While the Californians are still unbeaten after three matchdays, the Buccs went as losers from the field for the first time this season.
Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs received their second defeat in a row. The fact that the 26-year-old cracked the pass mark of 15,000 yards as early in his 49th match as no quarterback in the North American professional league before him was no consolation either: The game against the Los Angeles Chargers was lost at 24:30. In addition, Kansas head coach Andy Reid had to be taken to a hospital by ambulance after the game because of dehydration.
Others caused a sensation on this match day: Jamal Agnew of the Jacksonville Jaguars set the record for the longest kick-return in the 19:31 defeat against the Arizona Cardinals. The rookie carried the footbal 109 yards into the opposing end zone after a failed field goal attempt. Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens had a better day as a kicker. Tucker converted a fell goal over 66 yards in the final minutes of the game – a record in the NFL and at the same time decisive in the narrow 17:16 win over the Detroit Lions. (apa / scm)
