Hanover (SID) – The team from Hanover-Hildesheim starts in the new European football league ELF under the name “German Knights 1367 Lower Saxony”. This was announced by the new franchise on Friday. The European League of Football is scheduled to start playing in June with eight teams from Germany (6), Poland (1) and Spain (1).
“For me, after many years in European football, it is just fantastic to be able to take part in such a special and unique project,” said head coach Shuan Fatah: “I can literally feel the spirit of optimism around us.”
General Manager Chris Heyne is also expecting a lot from the project: “NFL football has been all the rage on TV for several years now, and we want to stage this unique mix of spectacular sport and a great ‘family event’ for a large audience.”
The team name refers to allied Hanoverians and Hildesheim knights who defeated Duke Magnus of Braunschweig and his armed forces in the Battle of Dinklar in 1367 despite being clearly outnumbered.
