American Football Club Troisdorf Jets: Seniors win against Bulldozers

Troisdorf. The summer break couldn’t have come at a worse time for Jets officials. After the emotional win over the Bonn Gamecocks at the end of June, HC Jungmann would have liked to have taken the momentum straight into the next few games. However, the responsible trainer was also happy to be able to give the team some rest after the strenuous seven games in a row.

So, after almost six weeks without a football game, it was time for the rematch against the Düsseldorf Bulldozers. The Bulldozers won the first leg 21:14 at the Aggerstadion, the Jets knew that a tough game was coming.

And this premonition was to come true. Returner Jamerial Parks was able to carry the first kick-off to the Düsseldorf 40-yard line, but after three attempts they had to punt the ball again. The bulldozers didn’t get far enough with their first possession either and had to punt as well. There were problems with the snap with this punt attempt, the ball could not be punted and so the Jets Offense started within the Düsseldorf 10 yard line. This opportunity was not to be missed and so it was Quarterback Brown’s first pass to wide receiver Parks that brought the first points for the Jets. However, the hosts were in no way shocked. In the drive that followed, it was Dusseldorf quarterback Lucas Wevelsiep who found a free-standing pass receiver in the gaps in the Jets defense, making it 7:7. The Jets then took the lead again with a run from playmaker Brown, 14-7. The next drive from Düsseldorf reached just before the end zone of the Jets. However, she showed that she was in an excellent position that day and would keep the offense free on this day. Defense back Matthias Berger intercepted a pass from QB Wevelsiep and put the Jets back in possession. However, now came what was to accompany the Jets Offense all day; careless mistake. After two snaps over Brown’s head, the offensive line couldn’t withstand the pressure from the Düsseldorf defense on the third try, Brown was sacked and the ball fumbled. This time, the Jets gave the home side a gift they couldn’t pass up. 14:14 in the second quarter. This error-proneness ran through the Jets’ offensive efforts. If you had previously only produced four turnovers in seven games, it was now three in one game. In addition, there were problems in the offense line, which limited the game quite a bit on offense. “We made life difficult for ourselves. The people of Düsseldorf seem to be a bit our kryptonite,” said HC Jungmann self-critically. However, the ailing offense could rely completely on the defense. Again and again, this put the Düsseldorf playmaker under pressure and was able to stop the opposing running back at the right moment. Drive after drive, Düsseldorf was forced to either punt or turn over on downs when Düsseldorf played the fourth attempt.

Redemption in the fourth quarter. After a long drive, which was dominated by running backs “Pepe” Bürling and “JJ” Mensing, it was ultimately receiver Raimund Kasch who found the end zone after a short pass from Brown. Although the PAT was missed, the Düsseldorfers were again unable to get the ball into the Troisdorf end zone. And now the Jets’ offense closed the sack. The Offense Line convinced with good protection. A short pass from Brown found Parks and he carried the ball over 50 yards into the Düsseldorf end zone. The subsequent 2 point conversion via pass from Brown to René Monjeamb was successful and the score was 28:14. The home side gave their all again, but failed again in the fourth attempt at the Jets Defense. And so it was the offense that finally controlled the clock via run for more than three minutes and thus ended the game. “It was a tough piece of work, but the team held together fantastically today and that’s why we ended up winning here.” , according to head coach Johannes Jungmann.

The Jets have no time to rest. The duel against the Cologne Falcons is already scheduled for next Saturday. In addition, this day is “Veterans Day”, here of course you don’t want to show any vulnerability.

Kick off is Saturday, August 13th at 6 p.m. in Troisdorf’s Agger Stadium.
