The American ex-serviceman who threw himself at the shooter in the foiled attack on a Thalys train in 2015 is returning to the United States and will not testify at the trial. His lawyer reports this on Sunday. Spencer Stone became unwell on his arrival in Paris last week and was hospitalized.

Stone was on the same Thalys train in August 2015 as 26-year-old Ayoub el-Khazzani, who was heavily armed and wanted to carry out an attack.
The now 28-year-old former soldier, along with two American friends and with the help of other passengers, managed to overpower el-Khazzani. Stone threw himself on the shooter and was thus able to avoid a bloodbath.
The two other Americans were heard at the trial on Thursday and Friday, but Spencer Stone has to resign, his lawyer reports Sunday. The man became unwell on Wednesday evening shortly after his arrival in Paris and had to be hospitalized. He is now returning to the United States.
