Raina Huang, 29 years old, is no longer a strange name in the culinary tourism community. The American female tourist lives in Los Angeles but often takes cross-country trips and has been to Vietnam many times.
In the travel community, Raina is famous for her healthy eating. She often conquers super-sized meals at many restaurants around the world.
In the US, the girl once went to many cities such as Las Vegas, Houston, Nashville or Hillsboro to eat “giant pho”. Each bowl of pho weighs from 2.2kg to 3.6kg, including pho noodles, broth, rare meat, meat and beef balls. And within just 20 minutes, she completed the challenge, receiving a reward of 250 USD.
Similarly, Raina went to many cities in Asia to participate in the challenge. During this trip to Vietnam, she visited many restaurants and tested herself. When she went to a restaurant specializing in fried chicken, potatoes and sausages, the American female tourist ate a giant bowl weighing 2.5 kg within 30 minutes and received a reward of 1 million VND.
Next, Raina signed up to participate in another challenge at a restaurant specializing in serving jellyfish noodle soup in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City.
It is known that from August 2022, the store has applied the program “eat all the food and receive hot cash rewards”. If diners participate in the challenge and eat a bowl of jellyfish noodles weighing 2.2kg within 40 minutes, they will receive a reward of 1.3 million VND. If you eat 2 similar bowls in double the time, you will receive 30 million VND.
The huge meal includes a kilogram of fresh vermicelli, 1.2kg of side dishes including 6 fish cakes, fish chips, jellyfish, bones, tuna eggs and tuna stomach. Each portion weighs about 2 ounces. Not to mention the bowl of vermicelli also comes with extra broth.
“I learned about this challenge after searching for information in Vietnam, so I really wanted to participate. Because I didn’t know the ingredients of this noodle dish, I was even more eager to try it. This is one of those experiences. Very interesting experience,” the American girl shared.
Raina believes that she can conquer a bowl of vermicelli weighing 2.2kg, but she wanted to test her own eating ability so she decided to choose the challenge of eating two bowls of vermicelli with a total weight of 4.4kg.
After eating all the ingredients in the first bowl of vermicelli and leaving only a little broth, she continued to conquer the second bowl. The girl received a lot of encouragement and cheers from people around her, but decided to stop. again at 40 minutes even though there’s still plenty of time left. Raina sent back the restaurant the amount of 1 million VND because of the loss.
“Many people wanted me to win and cheered enthusiastically, but honestly I tried my best. I also couldn’t eat many ingredients like fish or caviar. It was very difficult to eat two bowls of noodles,” she said. said.
Meanwhile, many people think that fish cakes in a bowl of vermicelli, if left to cool, can become fishy. As a foreigner, Raina may not be used to it and it’s natural that she won’t be able to eat it all.
