American couple take up arms to defend their home during a Black Lives Matter demonstration

During a Black Lives Matter demonstration, a Saint-Louis couple came out armed to defend their property.

This weekend, the Black Lives Matter protests continued unabated. In Saint-Louis, as a group of demonstrators crossed an upscale neighborhood in the direction of the mayor’s house, an American couple felt the need to protect their home. They went out, arms in hand, to the front of their property to ward off the crowd of 300 people. Husband and wife Mark and Patricia McCloskey, both of whom are personal injury lawyers, were filmed pointing their guns at the protesters. The owner stood barefoot on his porch with a semi-automatic weapon, while his wife held a pistol. In a video shared on Twitter, we see the lawyer point her gun at a protester who wears a t-shirt with the inscription “Raise your hand, do not shoot”.

Since the incident, the couple has been strongly criticized on Twitter, several Internet users accuse them of having resorted to violence when the demonstration was, it, peaceful. Nevertheless, according to NBC News, that day demonstrators would have damaged the portals of several properties in the neighborhood. The main purpose of the protest was to demand the resignation of the mayor, Lyda Krewson, after she released the names and addresses of residents who suggested the police be cut. If she has since apologized and withdrawn the information, a petition, launched this weekend asking for her resignation, has nevertheless already collected more than 40,000 signatures online.
