(CercleFinance.com) – American consumer confidence improved markedly in June, the monthly survey carried out by the Conference Board showed on Tuesday.
The confidence index calculated by the employers’ organization thus stood at 109.7 this month, against 102.5 in May.
The component of consumers’ judgment of their current situation stood at 155.3 against 148.9 last month and that of expectations came in at 79.3 after 71.5.
Their inflation expectations over a one-year horizon give a forecast rate of 6%, i.e. the lowest since the end of 2020.
While the statistic shows an improvement in consumer confidence among consumers under 35 and earning more than $35,000 a year, the evolution of the measure of their expectations shows that American households are anticipating a recession over the past six 12 months ahead, according to the ConfBoard.
