American companies lost!Taiwanese factory wins 3 major assists behind the global mobile phone chip leader-Finance-China Times

According to the latest report from Counterpoint, a technology and market research and investigation agency, with the increasing demand for mobile phones and the growth of sales in mainland China, India and other regions, the domestic IC design company MediaTek has a 31% market share in the third quarter of this year, defeating rival Qualcomm for the first time 29% of the world’s leading smartphone chipsets.

Counterpoint mentioned that MediaTek has become the global chip leader for three reasons. First, global smartphone sales rebounded significantly in the third quarter, driving strong demand for MediaTek’s smartphones in the US$100-250 price range; second, mainland China, India and other regions. Mobile phone buying is picking up; third, the United States sanctions Huawei, and mobile phone brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi seized the opportunity to grab market share and helped MediaTek chip shipments grow significantly.

It is worth mentioning that before the US export ban took effect on September 15th, Huawei purchased a large number of chips from the supply chain to help MediaTek advance its shipments and become the top supplier of smartphone chips.

Although MediaTek became the world’s leading smartphone chip leader in the third quarter, and Qualcomm retreated to second place, in terms of the 5G market, Qualcomm has a market share of 39%, making it the world’s largest supplier of 5G chips.

As 1/3 of the smartphones sold in the fourth quarter will support 5G networks, Qualcomm may regain the chip leader’s throne this season.
