Actress Kirsty Alley, best known for her role on the sitcom Cheers in the ’80s and ’90s, has died of cancer at the age of 71, according to a family statement.
“It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother,” her children wrote on Instagram.
The family’s statement did not say what type of cancer he had, but said it was “only recently” discovered.
“Surrounded by her immediate family, she fought with great strength, leaving us confident of her infinite joy in life and in all the adventures that await us,” wrote those close to the actress.
“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
“Our mother’s joy and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and many animals, not to mention her eternal joy in creating, are unparalleled and have inspired us to live life to the fullest just as she did .”
K. Allie won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role as a bar manager and waitress on the hit series Cheers.
The Kansas-born star starred in Look Who’s Talking and the television sitcom Veronica’s Closet.
