American Airlines resumes commercial flights with Spain

The American Airlines airline reported that it will resume its commercial operations between the United States and Spain, from May 11, on a direct flight from Madrid to Texas.

However, it is noted that Spanish passengers must have a justified reason to make the trip, in addition to the necessary documentation for entering the North American country.

The route will connect Madrid Barajas airport and Dallas Forth Worth airport, in Texas, one of the main terminals in the United States, which has already been operating internationally since this week. Texas is also not one of the states most affected by the current crisis, so it was opened early to international flights, although they still cannot be called “tourism”.

The American airline is thus ahead of the Spanish Iberia, which according to the newspaper “El Economista” had planned to make a flight to Miami at the end of May, and also to Air Europa, which has canceled all its flights with the United States until July.

American Airlines’ intention is to fly between Dallas and Madrid once a day starting this May 11. The United States has also reactivated the route between London and New York or Boston, which in this case will be operated by British Airways.

The US airline said they follow strict cleaning procedures to meet the guidelines of the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC). At the airport, they have increased the frequency of cleaning and are using specific signs on the boarding gates and ticket counters. Also inside the plane the use of masks will be mandatory.

On board the aircraft, American Airlines will use a disinfectant approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) throughout the cabin.

There are also other cleaning procedures that American adopted in early March, including additional touch points in the cabin, increased availability of hand sanitizer, and sanitizing wipes for crew members, among others.

In addition, American aircraft are being equipped with “High Efficiency Particulate” (HEPA) air filters. Which means that the cabin air in airplanes changes approximately 15 to 30 times per hour, or once every two to four minutes, something similar to the standard of hospitals.

Starting May 11, the airline will mandatorily require all passengers and crew to bring their own face masks during flights. In addition, the airline has implemented a new seat allocation policy. It has also eliminated the additional costs for ticket changes until May 31, 2020.

American Airlines also announced at the time the resumption of flights to Latin America from June 2020, but they could change according to the measures taken by national governments.

For Colombia they estimate to start from June 4 with the flight from Dallas to Bogotá, the flights from Miami to Barranquilla will start from June 7, 2020 with 6 weekly flights. From Miami to Bogotá from June 7 with 2 daily flights (3 daily flights from October 7, 2020). Miami to Cali from June 7 with 1 daily flight.

It will also resume the route Miami to Cartagena from June 7 with 1 daily flight, Miami – Medellín from June 7, 2020 with 1 daily flight, (reduction from 2 to 1 daily flight) and Miami – Pereira, from 8 October 2020, 3 weekly flights.

On the other hand, Warren Buffett, the largest shareholder of American Airlines, United, Southwest and Delta, through his company Berkshire Hathaway, sold shares for $ 6.5 billion, the majority corresponding to these airlines, last April .
