According to Ramón Jiménez, company representative for the Island, the objective of increasing weekly frequencies is to strengthen the air connection and tourism between both countries. These statements were made to the state media Granma during the recent International Tourism Fair (FitCuba 2024).
Last year, American Airlines carried out almost 5,000 flights between the US and the Island, with 90% of them boarding on time. With this, takeoffs and landings were carried out according to the planned schedule, transporting almost half a million passengers.
Jiménez emphasized the role that Miami plays in these operations, as it acts as the airline’s global strategic hub, greatly facilitating connections between the US and Cuba.
At the moment, the airline carries out 83 regular flights a week between Miami and different cities on the Island, including Havana, Varadero, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Holguín and Santiago de Cuba. These flights are carried out aboard Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A319 aircraft.

The company adjusted its baggage fees on flights to Cuba in the middle of last year, with the changes mostly affecting economy class passengers, transoceanic and transatlantic routes.
The airline’s baggage policy allows up to three checked bags, which must not exceed a limit of 32 kg each. While the first suitcase is included in the ticket price, the second and third suitcases have an additional cost of $150 and $200, respectively.
