American Airlines Lawsuit: Children Left “Frozen” at Airport

American Airlines reviews lawsuit filed by a client who alleges that the company left “frozen” for a whole night in a prison-like room at the North Carolina airport to his two children who were traveling alone.

Amber Vencill presented a sues in New York for the incident in which his children were stranded at the Charlotte airport on July 30, 2022.

Before arriving at the airport in that city, the minors were visiting their father in Missouri.

The woman alleges that airline personnel did not follow up on the children aged 10 and 12 who were traveling to Syracuse and acted carelessly and negligently by allegedly leaving them abandoned without foodsheets or proper supervision when the flight was delayed several times.

The airline alleges that it called the companion of the minors’ mother, only identified as Tedwho was supposed to pick up the youngsters once they arrived in Syracuse, to tell him that the plane that would transport them would leave the next day at around 9 am

The information the mother received was different. Supposedly, they told him by email, at around 11:30 pm on the 30th, that the minors would take off to NY at around 5 pm the next day.

Although Ted was told that the children would be housed in a good room with beds and a bathroom, the legal appeal indicates that They had to sleep in a lost children’s space similar to a prison cell. y in which they were freezing from the cold. They allegedly slept on a couch, according to the complaint cited by Insider.

Presumably, Vencill attempted to contact airline personnel at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, but was unable to contact anyone. It was through another airport employee that he was able to establish contact with his children. In the conversation, one of the boys told him that they had not eaten or drank anything since the previous night..

The worst part is that they were in an airport; They could have been taken anywhere“David Jaroslawicz, the Vencills’ lawyer, told Insider.

The lawyer added that minors are now afraid to travel out of fear ending up lost or abandoned.

Speaking to The Independent, American Airlines indicated that the safety and comfort of its customers, including unaccompanied minors in its care, is its highest priority. and that they are committed to providing a positive experience to all their travelers.

“We have been in contact with Ms. Vencill directly and We are reviewing the details of the lawsuit”added the airline.

As retribution for the bad time, later, Airline staff apologized and refunded the $150 extra fee per unaccompanied minorwhich in the plaintiffs’ opinion is “offensive.”

The lawsuit, which seeks an unspecified amount of damages, also questions that the company did not conduct an investigation into what happened.
