American Airlines launches its AAdvantage® program, – The Digital Traveler

FORT WORTH, Texas – American Airlines leads the way in customer loyalty with the official launch of the revamped AAdvantage® program, designed to reward members with more benefits, more ways to move up in status and the easiest way to unlock a world class experience.

At the heart of this innovative approach are Loyalty Points, which beginning March 1, AAdvantage members will need to register to earn their status.

This is a single point system, where one AAdvantage mile earned equals one Loyalty Point, positioning the AAdvantage program as the largest airline loyalty program that will not require members to track miles, dollars and/or flight segments to obtain your status.

“The past few years have taught us that loyalty is not a one-size-fits-all thing, it comes in many forms,” said Alison Taylor, American’s chief customer officer.

We recognize that the path to earning status is different for everyone, so we’re giving members more ways to earn Loyalty Points, whether it’s flying, shopping or using an AAdvantage credit card. We want to make it easy for our clients to acquire this status at any time during their trip.”

The simplicity of Loyalty Points

In March, AAdvantage members will have access to an updated AAdvantage status tab online to help project their ranking when flying and shopping

For every AAdvantage mile earned, members will receive one loyalty point. Members have been collecting Loyalty Points since January 1st.

Also, in March, members will see their progress toward status with their Loyalty Points within their AAdvantage account on aa.com and in the American Airlines app.

AAdvantage 2022 category requirements

STATUS loyalty points
AAdvantage Gold® 30,000
AAdvantage Platinum® 75,000
AAdvantage Platinum Pro® 125,000
AAdvantage Executive Platinum® 200,000

Once a member reaches a status level, their travel experience will improve and their status will be valid until March 31 of the following year.

Free upgrades for all members

To enhance the travel experience for all members, American is expanding access to free promotions for AAdvantage Gold and AAdvantage Platinum members to include all American flights in North America, regardless of flight distance.

For travel beginning March 2, an upgrade may be automatically requested if customers on the same reservation are eligible for an upgrade. Members will only need to use 500-mile upgrades if they want to promote fellow travelers who do not have AAdvantage status.

Later this year, American will expand Complimentary Upgrades to a companion traveling on the same flight as the Status Member. At that time, all existing 500-mile upgrades in member accounts will be converted to 250 loyalty points for the 2022 status earning period.

Earning miles is easier than ever

In the air: AAdvantage members earn miles when they fly with American, oneworld® Alliance carriers and other eligible airlines like JetBlue®.

With the recently announced exclusive partnership with GOL, Brazil’s largest airline, American continues to expand the opportunities for AAdvantage members to earn, redeem and enjoy the benefits of its worldwide network.

On the ground: Members earn miles for everyday spending with the AAdvantage eShoppingTM, SimplyMilesTM and AAdvantage DiningTM programs, reserving hotels and rental cars with AAdvantage members, as well as for purchases made with an AAdvantage credit card.
