Passengers experience scary moments American Airlines who was frightened because the plane fell for 3 minutes as high as more than 4 km in the air. Oxygen masks scattered.
Reported from Fox Business, Tuesday (15/8/2023) the scary moment was told by a University of Florida professor who took part in the flight. The incident occurred on American Airlines Flight 5916 last Thursday, after taking off from Charlotte, North Carolina, and heading to Gainesville, Florida.
“I fly a lot. It’s scary,” Hove said in a tweet.
“Kudos to our incredible cabin crew and pilots on American Air 5916. These photos do not capture the smell of burning, loud bangs, or ringing in the ears,” he wrote.
“A part failed mid-flight and depressurized the cabin. A burning smell could apparently be associated with the use of the oxygen cylinders. The wings went out to quickly lower our altitude to allow for more oxygen. Terrible… there were about 10 minutes that really didn’t work.” great… but turned out fine,” Harrison Hove tweeted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The plane then landed at Gainesville Regional Airport just before 5pm.
If you look at the photos shared by Hove on X, it can be seen that the passengers were wearing oxygen masks that fell right above their heads. Behind the horror of this flight, some passengers also praised how calm the crew was amidst the panic of the passengers.
In a statement, the spokesperson American Airlines told FOX Business that the sudden drop in altitude was caused by a barometric pressure problem.
“American Eagle flight 5916, operated by Piedmont Airlines, from Charlotte (CLT) to Gainesville, Florida (GNV) landed safely at GNV on Thursday, August 10th descending to a lower altitude. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and thank our team for their professionalism,” the spokesperson said.
