American actor Angus Cloud has died at the age of 25. He made his breakthrough in the hit teen drama out of nowhere Euphoria on HBO, as drug dealer Fez O’Neill.
His family reports that Cloud passed away at his home in Oakland, California. A cause of death has not been named, but it is reported that he recently struggled with the death of his father. “Our only consolation is the idea that Angus is reunited with his father, his greatest friend.”
“Angus has been open about his mental health issues and we hope his passing reminds others that they are not alone and don’t have to fight in silence.”
Discovered on the street
The series tells the raw story of main character Rue (played by Zendaya) and her friends’ struggles with addiction, domestic violence, sex and loss. Critics praised the acting performances of the young cast and the realistic and high-profile storylines. In two seasons, it grew into one of the channel’s best-known titles, after Game of Thrones in The Last of Us.
Cloud was discovered on the street in New York by the casting scout of Euphoria. Although he initially feared being scammed, the creator of the series managed to convince him.
It was initially planned for his character to die in season 1, but the creators were so impressed with Cloud that his character was allowed to stay. A Hollywood career was on the horizon: he starred with John Malkovich The Line and was cast in the sixth part of the horror series Scream.
HBO says in a response that it is extremely saddened by Cloud’s death. “He was immensely talented and a beloved member of the HBO and Euphoria-family.”
