Immediately after the shot, the officer tries to give the boy first aid. Also soon colleagues arrive who start a resuscitation in vain.
The police also released other images of officers arriving shortly after the fired shot. It shows, for example, how an attempt is made to save the boy’s life and how colleagues take care of the officer who fired the shot.
Found firearm
The video also shows that there was a firearm behind the fence where Toledo stopped. Police initially reported that Toledo was armed at the time he was shot, but so it appears the boy had thrown the weapon away shortly before.
The Toledo family’s lawyer calls the video gripping, sad and disturbing. “The cop wanted him to show his hands. Adam cooperated and turned around. His hands were empty when the cop shot him in the chest.”
Police brutality
The dramatic video comes at a precarious time in the US. In Minneapolis, the trial is currently underway over the high-profile death of George Floyd, who died in an arrest. A black suspect, Daunte Wright, was also recently shot in that city.
Since it often involves white cops and black or Latino victims, these issues also play an important role in American racial relations. In this case, too, it concerned a white cop and a victim from the Latino community.
The Toledo family has asked to keep the peace, but are also calling for demonstrations against police brutality in the US.
