–
Within the framework of the commemorative acts of the 110 years of Casa Amèrica Catalunya, the artist from Cuajinicuilapa (Guerrero, Mexico) Baltazar Castellano Melo, presents the mural America XXI. This work reflects, from the artistic spirit of this muralist with indigenous and Afro-American roots, contemporary Latin America that vindicates its origins and the cultural syncretism that defines it.
Baltazar Castellano Melo and the anthropologist Olga Manzano Vega placeholder image have painted, carved and built this work in volume during the first two weeks of September 2021.
For these young creators, their works are a vehicle to raise their voices, generate knowledge and claim the complexity of the always multiple identity of the American continent.
On the one hand, its objective is for the viewer to know those cultural traits that have been forgotten or even denied, but often its interventions also include community participation from the configuration of the content to the pictorial work itself.
