America women’s team rescues a 2-2 draw against Pumas in the “capital classic”

Mexico City. With a goal from star striker Sarah Luebbert, América Femenil managed to salvage a valuable 2-2 draw in the “capital classic” against Pumas, played this Sunday at the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium.

In the match corresponding to matchday eight of the Apertura 2024 tournament of the Liga Mx Femenil, the Águilas, led by Spanish coach Ángel Villacampa, took the lead on the scoreboard in the 17th minute, when Nancy Antonio sent the ball to the back of the net with a powerful shot inside the area.

However, the gold and blue team, led by Brazilian Marcelo Frigério, managed to tie the score (1-1) in the 47th minute, thanks to a goal by Aerial Chavarin.

Stephanie Ribeiro managed to extend the university team’s lead in the 70th minute, when she connected with a pass from her teammate Deneisha Blackwood and headed to the center of the area to shoot from the penalty spot and put the score at 2-1.

While the felines were still celebrating their goal, with which they had managed to turn the score around, Luebbert appeared just one minute later (71) in front of the university goal to push the ball and sign the final 2-2, with which his team went seven games without knowing defeat.

Thanks to this result, the blue-cream team added 13 points and remained in seventh place in the general classification, while the feline squad rose to fifth position, with 16 units.
