America, wars without victory

Joe Biden inherits a heavy task: to withdraw American troops engaged in conflict zones in Central Asia and the Middle East. The choices that the 46th American president will make will be decisive for the role and place in the world of the United States.

Almost twenty years after September 11, 2001, the American armies are still deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq. It took, of course, only a few weeks for the Americans to overthrow the Taliban regime in Kabul in 2001 and to chase Osama bin Laden and his followers of Al Qaida, responsible for the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. But none of these military engagements launched in the name of the war on terror by George W. Bush have been crowned with victory. Since then, the United States has also intervened in Syria or Libya.
