América took advantage of the bad moment that Chivas is going through to defeat them 2-0 and take the victory this Sunday in the friendly edition of the national classic played at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The azulcremas goals were the work of Rodrigo Aguirre, at minute 20, and Illian Hernández, at 45+1.
The confusion surrounding the Guadalajara club, after the recent departure of coach Fernando Gago, was evident in this match, for which Arturo Ortega, strategist of Tapatío, a Chivas subsidiary, was appointed as interim coach.
Although Chivas was the first to create danger, it was surprised in the 20th minute, when a blunder by its goalkeeper, Oscar Whalley, by not attacking the ball properly, allowed Aguirre’s shot to invade his goal to make it 1-0.
Carlos Cisneros had the opportunity to even the scores just four minutes later, but the Águilas goalkeeper, Rodolfo Cota, kept the ball.
From that moment on, the game became rough and was interrupted on several occasions due to the various fouls that were committed.
América managed to extend their lead until minute 45+1, after a great cross from Kevin Álvarez from the right was capitalized by Hernández to unleash a powerful header and put the score at 2-0.
In the second half, neither team was able to hit the nets, so various modifications began to be made, which were unsuccessful.
Tempers heated up in the 75th minute, when the referee sent off the American player Richard Sánchez for allegedly having two yellow cards, but the player had not been previously cautioned.
The action generated intense complaints from the azulcremas and their coach André Jardine, who was reprimanded. Just a few moments later, a fight broke out on the field, which led to yellow cards for Isaac “Cone” Brizuela and Iván Rodríguez.
The fans also showed their annoyance by throwing smoke bombs onto the field of play, which affected visibility, so the match was stopped, and although it resumed a few minutes later, the scoreboard did not move again and Chivas was left with a defeat. even more so against his staunch rival.
