Mexico City. The Mexican telecommunications giant América Móvil is exploring an agreement with the space technology company SpaceX, owned by tycoon Elon Musk, to expand collaboration between both companies, executives said this Wednesday.
During a call with analysts to discuss third-quarter corporate results, América Móvil AMXB.MX executives explained that the agreement would allow SpaceX to connect to its main mobile services network.
The alliance would add to a service alliance that Mexican millionaire Carlos Slim’s company already has with SpaceX’s satellite internet unit, Starlink.
América Móvil shares rose about 2.5 percent after it reported the day before that it more than tripled its quarterly net profit, citing a weaker peso that boosted its overseas revenue and lower financing costs.
The firm is also on track to meet its capital spending forecast for this year of around $7 billion, its chief financial officer, Carlos García, said during the call with analysts.
