“America is back,” Biden assured, and the world applauded, obsessively wanting to differentiate itself from Trump. This has not been the case in Afghanistan, where “America is out”, in reverse, is out and takes out its troops. What is back is chaos, and panic over the Taliban. They reappear from the remote past, and any photograph shows it. They are the “teaching” of eternal salvation or damnation, inalienable. The Kabul airport is what remains, precariously secured by two thousand soldiers. There are thousands to leave, families, collaborators, or Westerners, who claim to do so by abandoning everything. Countless Afghans also press, even at the cost of their lives, in shocking images. No alternatives, no duly anticipated and less coordinated plan. The former Afghan government started with whatever money it could. A desperate evacuation, improvised before the sudden enemy advance. It is speculated that there will be more troops to guarantee the escape. In short, a catastrophe.
Biden defends his actions. He is criticized by Republicans, Democrats, analysts, the press, and public opinion who, while supporting North America to leave, complain about the hasty and lack of options. A decision planned in the days of Trump, which Biden put the deadline of August 31. This allowed the Taliban to carry out their immediate takeover of power. It was not considered whether the corrupt Afghan government could replace them, or its army. It was evident that their training for twenty years was useless, if they had evolved, or pretend that the Taliban did not threaten. That is to say, nobody learned anything at an astonishing cost, thousands of lives, and a sophisticated war material now in Taliban hands. An embarrassing defeat for the United States, very difficult to justify or reverse. China and Russia take advantage of it and understand each other with the Taliban, without seeking freedom or a resisted democracy, since they do not practice it. They really know them.
Afghans do not submit to negotiations, aid, or arms. They have never done it, and they continue their ancestral struggles, in territories of impossible access. They finance their weapons with narcotics without any control. Only religion manages to unify them, the more rigid it is, there are better results, according to Taliban practice. For now they show some tolerance and openness, with foreigners (infidels) and women. They do not want an internal reaction, or an international one that fears an increase in terrorism. It is contradictory that they themselves relax the beliefs whose non-fulfillment they severely punish in others. It seems like a temporary strategy, until they reimpose their Koranic laws, once the Americans leave. It suits them, they leave Western experiments and beliefs behind. So that America is never back again.
