América’s defense will be weakened for the remainder of the Liga MX Apertura 2024, which resumes in full this weekend, after the imminent loss of one of its star defenders was announced.
This is Chilean Igor Lichnovsky, who will have to undergo surgery on his right knee, which is expected to take about six months to recover, or more, depending on the progress of the player’s rehabilitation.
“Club América informs that our player Igor Lichnovsky will undergo plastic surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee.
“The recovery time will depend on his progress,” the Águilas team said in a statement on social media regarding the South American player.
The 30-year-old Chilean international was playing his third tournament with América, having only played one match in the current semester before the break for the 2024 Leagues Cup.
Igor Lichnovsky was the target of much criticism upon his arrival at América, as his quality was doubted, although little by little he earned a place in the starting lineup and was part of the team’s second championship with André Jardine at the helm.
Although the Águilas defender will miss the 2024 Apertura of the Liga MX, it is also likely that he will miss the start of the next Mexican soccer tournament, depending on his recovery.
