Netflix is trying to establish itself both in Latin America and in Spain thanks to new series in preparation. The American giant will adapt “people-fied“, the web series produced by America Ferrera which depicts the daily life of Latinos, constantly confronted with prejudice. Netflix is also counting on five Spanish original series to consolidate its hold on the Spanish market after the success of “Elite“.
Netflix continues to diversify. After Jim Parsons, the platform has just acquired the new series produced by America Ferrera, the actress best known for her role in the comedy “Ugly Betty“. The American giant will adapt the Latin web series”people-fiedlaunched in 2017 on the Macro platform. According to the American press, the streaming leader has ordered ten episodes lasting thirty minutes for the first season.
We will follow the life of three Mexican-American cousins who run at all costs after the American dream in the heart of Los Angeles. A dream they want to achieve at all costs even if it jeopardizes their neighborhood, their immigrant grandfather and even their favorite taco restaurant. For the moment, it is not known if the actors and actresses of the original series will return in this adaptation. However, Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chavez, the creators of the series, will be back as co-executive producers and writers. Marvin Lemus will even be the director.
The first version told the story of seven characters from the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles who were trying to make a success of their life despite the prejudices against Mexicans. Each episode unfolded from the point of view of one of the characters and explored their issues within the population.
Five new Spanish series
If Netflix intends to extend its grip on the Mexican market other than by retracing the hell of drugs with “Narcos : Mexico“, the platform is still continuing its development in Spain through original creations. After the success of “Elite” in 2018 and especially from “The Money Heist” in 2017, the American giant set its sights on five new series, he revealed at the 2019 Berlin Film Festival. The first, entitled “The neighbor“, produced by the same company behind “Elite“, tells the story of a man who will receive supernatural powers from an alien.
“christmas days“, will follow the lives of four sisters who celebrate Christmas. The series will cross the ages to discover them from their adolescence to their old age.
“The mess you leave” will focus on Raquel, a young literature professor who must settle in the hometown of her husband who hides many secrets.
With “Idhun’s memories“, Netflix will offer the adaptation of the fantasy novel of the same name to its subscribers.
“Valeria“will revolve around a writer in the midst of a crisis, her three best friends and their life between love, friendship, doubts, grief…
These five new series should land on the platform in 2020.
