The new movie in the classic “Barbie” line of puppetry features a dose of Latino talent. America Ferrera has joined Warner Bros. with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
From director Greta Gerwig, who also wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach, “Barbie” brings an iconic couple of Barbie (Robbie) and Ken (Gosling) to the big screen. America Ferrera’s role has yet to be revealed.
as reported TermGiven Gerwig’s experience as a director, hopefully this isn’t your typical puppet story. Robbie is producing the film with his production company LuckyChap Entertainment and LuckyChap with Tom Ackerley. Robbie Brenner also produces through Matel and David Heyman through Heyday Films. LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara and Matelli’s Ynon Kreiz are corresponding producers.
Production on the Barbie song is slated to begin early this year at WB’s Leavesden studios in London and will be released in 2023.
I like it Variety According to the report, plans to cast Matel as an on-screen puppet have been around for some time, but were confirmed when Robbie, Gerwig, and Baumbach started the project in 2018 and 2019.
Ferrera, for his part, also makes his films directorial debut an adaptation of Erika Sánchez’s best-selling novel, “I’m Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter,” and Sánchez is a co-producer on the film. It also has the long-awaited Apple TV+ limited edition We Crashed, which will be released in March and will also star Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway.
