Mexico City. In its first home game at the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium, América came from behind and rescued a 2-2 draw against Toluca, at the close of the third day of the Liga Mx Femenil.
Although the Diablas took the lead with goals from Cinthya Peraza (16) and Mariel Román (45), the Americanistas’ reaction came at the end of the first half, when Spanish coach Ángel Villacampa resorted to his best attacking elements.
A couple of minutes after the break, the formula worked. A cross from the newcomer Scarlett Camberos set up the American Sarah Luebbert in the area, to head home the first goal (47). With the confidence of seeing a diminished rival, the young Aylín Aviléz later leveled the score (59), after a free kick from Irene Guerrero.
Near the end, the Águilas’ goalkeeper, Itzel Velasco, suffered a serious injury to her right leg and left her place to the Spanish Sandra Paños, who made her debut in Mexican soccer. “It seems that we are going to lose Itzel for a long time. We are very sad for her,” said Villacampa in a press conference.
With one match still pending, the Coapa team thus added its first point and placed 13th in the competition. Toluca, on the other hand, reached four points in seventh place.
