Amendments on the monthly supplement to the old-age and disability pension have been submitted for public consultation

The amendments provide that the bonus will stop being paid if the recipient of an old-age or disability pension leaves for permanent residence outside Latvia or another member state of the European Union (EU), a member state of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or Guernsey.

The payment of the bonus will stop with the next month following the month in which the State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA) has become aware of the departure of the recipient of an old-age or disability pension for permanent residence outside the mentioned countries.

On the other hand, if the pension recipient has returned to live permanently in Latvia or another EU member state, EEA member state, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or Guernsey, after receiving the pension recipient’s request, VSAA will grant a bonus or renew the payment of the bonus on the first day of the month in which the request was submitted and accrued rights to it.

In order to pay a supplement to a pensioner living in an EU member state, a member state of the EEA, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or Guernsey, the place of residence of the VSAA person is determined on the basis of the information provided by the competent institution in matters of pensions of the country of residence. It is also based on the document submitted by the person, issued by the institution of the relevant country responsible for the registration of citizens, or the person’s application, which indicates the address of the place of residence and which was approved by a notary or the Embassy of Latvia.
