If there are two clubs in the Argentine League that develop great sustained projects and are protagonists, those are Ameghino and San Isidro. The two Córdoba clubs had great performances in 2022-23 and were close to promotion. And from that there were three players from the Villa María team and two from San Francisco who packed their bags and took their dreams and talent to the National League.
Cristian Zenclussen, Emiliano Lezcano and Mateo Beigier on the one hand; Federico Zezular and Santiago Assum on the other made their own names in the second division and the next step in their development they decided to give to the Argentine basketball elite.
“They made the jump to the National League because they have earned it, they deserve it for everything they have worked for, for the talent, for the natural conditions, but also a lot of effort. They were already playing in the Argentine League at a good level and we as a club could not give them promotion and they did deserve to go up in category, so it seems to me that it is the right time,” their former coach, Pablo Castro, expressed about Ameghino’s trio. .
Zenclussen, a 26-year-old, 1.86-year-old point guard, had 6.9 points, with an interesting 36% in doubles and 2.3 assists. He “improved a lot in defense and ended up being a perimeter specialist. He has a very good three-point shot, he doesn’t need to take many shots to contribute from that spot, and he reads very well,” Castro analyzed about the point guard who already debuted in Comunicaciones.
Lezcano, 22 years old and 1.88 tall, was the other point guard for Villa María and arrives at Ferro to occupy the U23 team. He comes from being one of Ameghino’s best with 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.6 steals. “He is tremendous in the open court, he is very good one-on-one, he has many resources to go to the basket, he grew a lot in decision-making and reading and he has a lot to improve, in addition to being very aggressive in defense,” said Castro.
Like Lezcano, Beigier (22 years old and 1.88), son of the historic Horacio, ended up in Riachuelo after averaging 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists. “He is very versatile, he can play in all positions on the perimeter. He is very vertical, revulsive. He still has to learn to read the game, but that is part of his virtue, his audacity when playing. He is improving his outside shot (it comes from 28.7%) and is very powerful,” Ameghino’s coach concluded.
Moving on to the San Isidro duo, Zezular and Assum were the scorers for Daniel Beltramo’s team last season and the first made the jump to Quimsa, while the second left for Comunicaciones.
Federico, a forward of 1.98 and 21 years old, has 14 points and 5.3 rebounds, with 67.3% in doubles and 33.1% in triples. “He has an extraordinary physique, he does things in the League, he dominates both boards, he has an incredible first step and he is not going to have problems from the athletic, physical and dynamic aspects of playing. Going up a category will require him to continue developing his three-point shot and his one-on-one, which are very important due to his athletic ability,” analyzed his former coach, Daniel Beltramo. He already had his debut with 7 points in 18 minutes in the Fusion.
For his part, Santiago, a forward of 25 years and 1.94, arrives at the Mercedes team after having a season with averages of 13.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists, with a high 39.4% in triples and 60.6% in doubles. “He has very good legs and athleticism. He gets the jump at a very good time, he is very professional. He has an excellent three-point shot, just like Zezular should have no problem adjusting because he is prepared. Santi must incorporate his one-on-one game and attack the basket, but moving up a category will force them to have new resources and I know they will achieve it because of his mentality,” the San Isidro coach concluded.
