AMD’s Scott Herkelman Departs After Seven Years: What Lies Ahead for the Graphics Business Unit?

I hope future product planning will be better.

AMD has made another personnel change, this time with Scott Herkelman, senior vice president and general manager of the Graphics Business Unit.

Scott Herkelman announced earlier on his Twitter (now known as X Platform) that he will leave AMD at the end of 2023, and we have accompanied him through 3 product generations (RDNA 2, RNDA 3 and RDNA 4), a total of 7 year time. Before joining AMD, Scott Herkelman was the general manager of NVIDIA GeForce. He joined AMD in 2016 and was promoted to senior vice president in 2022.

Subsequently, Jack Huynh will take over the Graphics Business Unit, which means that the entire AMD consumer products will be under the control of Jack, including Client Computing, Semi Custom and the latest Graphics Business Unit.

Scott Herkelman mentioned this on Twitter:

“After seven years at AMD and launching three increasingly competitive generations of RDNA graphics architectures, I have decided to leave AMD at the end of this year.

Godspeed @amdradeon

I will miss every single one of you, fighting shoulder to shoulder in the trenches together, the excitement we shared during new product launches, and the joy of being in the arena for this wonderful, vibrant industry.

May you continue to punch above your weight class and one day… beat the final boss.”
