AMD to Release Epyc Genoa-X with V-Cache and Up to 96 Cores Built on Zen 4 Architecture

AMD has already released Epyc processors Genoaup to 96-core configurations built on the architecture Zen 4. However, this year will see the release of three more Epyc products equipped with the architecture Zen 4 (plus, of course, the Instinct MI300, which will bring cores to the computing accelerator segment for the first time Zen). Up to 96-core is expected to be released first Genoa-X with V-cache and up to 128-core processor Bergamo (It was 4c), then in the second half the even cheaper Siena series, which could offer up to 32 cores Zen 4 or up to 64 cores It was 4c (the configurations are probably not closed yet – if so, the definitive version has not been leaked yet).

The first mentioned, that is Genoa-X with V-cache and 96 cores Zen 4, has now appeared on the Chinese platform Goofish. It is a sample of the Epyc 9684X model, which, according to the seller, should be fully functional, 96-core and equipped with 1152 MB L3 cache. Which means a combination of 384 MB L3 cache augmented with 768 MB L3 V-cache. A capacity exceeding 1 GB of L3 cache is a first for the world of x86 processors (it is possible that even outside the world of x86, but who knows – if you can think of a CPU that is equipped with >1 GB of classic L3, share in the discussion).

AMD already mentioned last year that when it announced the shape of the Epyc processor portfolio with cores to server manufacturers and key customers Zen 4she was surprised by the greater interest of these customers in Genoa-X than a classic one Genoa. Therefore, there will probably be no shortage of demand.

Release of processors Genoa-X is expected in the current (first) half of the year, but AMD basically has nowhere to grab. Already a V-cache variant Zen 3 (Milan-X) was planned as competition for Intel Sapphire Rapids-HBM (now called Xeon Max Series CPU), however, it is still not available, so the release would Genoa-X AMD was only competing with itself.
