Let’s look, for example, at the resolution of 1920×1080 and 2560×1440 pixels. There, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D was the most powerful processor ever, and it surpasses even the Core i9-13900K (94.4 – 97.2% performance against the 7800X3D) or the Core i7-13700K (91.2 – 94.2%). But if we look at the consumption of the processors, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D needed only 49 W on average. Let’s remember that this is a processor whose TDP is 120 W. In the case of Intel, we have 107 W for the Core i7-13700K and even 143 W for Core i9-13900K. This means that Core i7 takes 2.36 times more energy for the same performance, Core i9 even 3.04 times. We can look at it another way and the Core i5-12600 processor has a similar consumption as the 7800X3D, namely 51 W. However, it offers 72.1 to 77.2% of the performance of the AMD processor in games.

Somewhat different results can be found in the set of 47 applications, however AMD’s dominance can be seen here as well. There, the 7800X3D is far from the most powerful processor and is roughly at the level of the Core i7-12700K (100.9%), while the Core i5-13600K (106.6%) is slightly more powerful. If we look at the two Intel processors mentioned above, it is 122.0% for the i7-13700K and 136.1% for the i9-13900K against the tested processor from AMD. But while AMD takes 49 W even in this case, the comparably powerful i7-12700K takes almost twice as much, 90 W. The slightly more powerful i5-13600K takes more than twice as much, 105 W. And then we have the i7-13700K with 133 W and i9-13900K with 169 W. You can see how it looks in the following table.

AMD offers 82% more power per watt against the i7-12700K, 152% more against the worst Core i9-13900K (ie 2.5 times as much power per watt). It’s not as extreme a difference as in games, but it’s still a huge disparity.
But we shouldn’t forget that Intel can be efficient in single-threaded workloads when it comes to processors with a small number of cores. In the review, they measured the number of points per watt in the CineBench 1T benchmark, and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D scored 106.2 points here. The cheap Core i5-13400F even managed it with 154.8 points per watt, but the vast majority of processors (both AMD and Intel) are behind the 7800X3D. E.g. The Core i5-13600K is at 95.3 points (the Core i7-12700K is very similar) and the Core i9-13900K already reaches 71.5 points. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is even worse with 50.8 points.
