AMD Recalls Radeon Driver for Counter-Strike 2 Due to VAC Ban Risk

Today, AMD quickly recalled its latest Radeon driver due to its use with Counter Strike 2 could lead to a ban from Valve’s anti-cheat. AMD promises to resolve the issue, while Valve plans to identify affected users and unban them once things return to normal.

One of the key features that AMD has added to its AMD Software driver: Adrenalin Edition 23.10.1 for Radeon GPUs, Anti-Lag+ support for Valve’s Counter Strike 2 has become available. But, as it turned out, support for the Anti-Lag+ function was implemented by bypassing engine.dll functions, which VAC considers fraud and acts accordingly, banning users.

“The latest AMD driver has made Anti-Lag+ available for CS2, which is implemented by bypassing engine dll functions,” Valve said in a statement. “If you are an AMD user and play CS2, DO NOT ENABLE ANTI-LAG/+; any tampering with the CS code will result in a VAC ban. Once AMD releases the update, we can do the work to identify the affected users and unban them.”

AMD Anti-Lag+ is one of the core features of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology, which currently powers the latest AMD Radeon RX 7000, which is one of the best graphics cards you can buy. Considering that demanding gamers with the latest graphics cards tend to enable all the advanced features in the latest games, one can only wonder how many people were banned due to AMD’s Anti-Lag+ implementation in Counter-Strike 2.

Meanwhile, AMD Software’s latest driver: Adrenalin Edition 23.10.1 also supports three major games: Assassin’s Creed Mirage, The Lords of the Fallen and Forza Motorsport. Therefore, the recall will affect gamers who want to play these games with the latest drivers.
