The Radeon RX 6700 XT is the successor to the popular Radeon RX 5700 XT with a Navi 10 chip. Now it is a Navi 22 with a second version RDNA architecture and uses a 7nm chip consisting of 17.2 billion transistors. This in itself is a really significant shift compared to the Navi 10, as it consists of “only” 10.3 million transistors and of course it is also reflected in the chip sizes: Navi 22 with 336 mm² a Navi 10 s 251 mm².

Both Navi 10 and Navi 22 have the same number of Stream processors, 2560, texturing units (160) and rasterization units (64), while Navi 22 has an even narrower memory bus, 192-bit compared to 256-bit on Navi 10. However, the new generation among other things, it supports hardware ray tracing, so it has new ray tracing cores for this purpose, their number corresponds to the number of Compute Units, or 40. And then a significant part of the chip will also take up 96 MB of Infinity Cache, which Navi 10 also did not have.

As for the gross power, it is increased mainly due to the clock speeds, which in the reference version reach up to 2581 MHz (+676 MHz compared to Navi 10), and so in FP32 we have a power of up to 13.22 TFLOPS compared to 9.75 TFLOPS. But how will all this be reflected in the game performance?

Server Hexus.net tested the reference version of the Radeon RX 6700 XT and it is clear from the results that its evaluation is really not easy, as this card simply cannot be included between two competing models. Sometimes it can compete with the GeForce RTX 3070, other times more with the RTX 3060 Ti, or its performance corresponds to even the old RX 5700 (XT). However, it can be said that this card most often competes with the RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Super and looks at the results of the RTX 3060 Ti from below, which does not exactly honor her. –

But as an experienced W1zzard sees on techPowerUp? There were, as usual, more versions of the card available, including the reference Radeon RX 6700 XT, and it turned out in a slightly better light, with performance just above the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and vice versa below the RTX 2080 Ti. –

In terms of clocking, it is confirmed that the Navi 22 is able to operate at very high beats, in the case of the XFX RX 6700 XT Merc 319 on average at 2741 MHz, which will bring about 5 percent more than the initial performance.

However, even according to techPowerUp, deliveries of the RX 6700 XT will be very limited, so the customer will not be able to choose anyway and if he can buy such a card, then at best for the price he would normally pay for a very well equipped GeForce RTX 3080. .
