AMD presents product plan for RDNA 3 and onwards

AMD has now revealed some additional details for the graphics architecture RDNA 3 and also provided a product plan that shows a launch of RDNA 4 in about two years.

AMD is expected to launch the graphics architecture RDNA 3 during the second half of the year. Now, in connection with its annual Financial Analyst Day, the company has given us a little more information about the upcoming products. They have also shared a product plan that shows that the sequel RDNA 4 will be launched in 2024.

In terms of RDNA 3, the architecture will, as expected, be built on five nanometer manufacturing technology. AMD will use a so-called chiplet design for the graphics processors. Just like you do with your Ryzen processors where processor cores and IO are housed in different dedicated circuits on the processors.

AMD must also have rebuilt its computing units to be used in RDNA 3. However, exactly what is new with these has not been detailed. In addition to this, the next generation of Infinity Cache will also be implemented.

According to AMD, the upcoming architecture will offer up to 50 percent better performance per watt compared to today’s RDNA 2. Should this prove to be the case, we may see significantly better performance without the upcoming graphics cards becoming too power-hungry.

It is clear that AMD has high hopes for RDNA 3 and after the launch that will take place sometime during the autumn, it looks like there will be a two-year wait for the sequel.
