After rumors of low inventories and shortages of Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards, AMD is now said to have around 200,000 units ready for the launch period now taking place in December.
Tomorrow will see the launch of AMD’s RDNA 3 graphics architecture and Radeon RX 7000 series of graphics cards. Prior to the launch, we saw various rumors stating that there would be relatively few completed units that would be ready by the launch date. Something that would then lead to a shortage of the new graphics cards and potentially inflated prices during the first few months of the architecture.
Now comes a new rumor from Kyle Bennett who is said to have heard from several sources that there are actually over 200,000 Navi 31 GPUs ready for store shelves. Of these, approximately 30,000 units will be for “Made-by-AMD” graphics cards, i.e. graphics cards equipped with AMD’s cooling solution. The remaining GPUs are said to have found their way out to partner manufacturers for use in their Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX variants.
It remains to be seen exactly what tomorrow will look like. However, previous rumors have claimed that AMD’s partner manufacturers won’t launch their variants until a week or two after the launch of the reference models. This could then mean some graphics cards available at initial launch and later in December these will be supported by units from partner manufacturers.
Verified by multiple sources. @amdradeon will ship more than 200,000 7900 XT and XTX GPUs in Q4. Over 30,000 reference cards on shelves on launch day.

This can be compared to Nvidia and their Geforce RTX 40 series which Wccftech it claims to have shipped just 160,000 copies since launch. It is also said that many of these graphics cards will remain on store shelves and Nvidia will have a hard time finding customers for their latest creations.
Exactly what the situation will look like now and in the future remains to be seen. It’s clear, however, that the graphics card market can be really interesting to watch if AMD can challenge Nvidia’s mighty RTX 40 series in terms of performance and/or price.
