AMD in progress with “extreme” laptop processor for gaming

AMD announces that it has changed its plans for upcoming processor launches slightly. In 2023, the company will release a new type of processor for “extreme gaming laptops” with the code name “Dragon Range”.

The company presented the news during a press conference after the quarterly report for the second quarter of the financial year 2022 was presented.

Dragon Range will use the Zen 4 architecture, the same that will be used in the Raphael family of desktop processors and “Phoenix”, a family of processors for mid-power laptops.

According to AMD, the Dragon Range chip will have the most cores, most processor wires and most cache ever in any laptop processor. The company has not gone into more technical details, but a picture from the presentation shows that the chip supports ddr5 and pci-express 5 and draws at least 55 watts.
