AMD fixes a bug on some PBO systems

Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) is a technology for automatic overclocking of Ryzen processors. Its advantage is that it works within the ranges defined by AMD, so users without experience with overclocking do not have to worry that manually setting inappropriate values will damage the processor. On the other hand, the PBO does not reach the power / performance ratio that can be tuned by manually setting or combining the PBO with other elements.

With the last two versions of graphics drivers, the PBO may be inadvertently activated when the GPU profiles are activated. Although this bug does not affect all users of the combination of the graphics driver and Ryzen, so there are unknown variables that enter the situation. Some users talk about the possible impact of the Ryzen Master utility, but even that is not a complete answer, because according to some users, the problem may not occur with Ryzen Master either, and according to others, it may occur without it.

But it will probably have a role, because another group of users claim that after removing the Ryzen Master SDK with the help of the unofficial utility Radeon Software Slimmer, the problem disappears.

We are aware of a software issue that modifies certain AMD processor settings for some users. We investigate the issue and share more information as soon as we can.

— AMD spokesman

AMD has announced that it is aware of the problem and is working to resolve it. No official recommendation has been issued yet. For the time being, affected users who have an increased power consumption due to overclocking can use one of the procedures recommended by other users. Randomly – do not update the graphics drivers until a solution is resolved by AMD. Switch the processor to ECO mode. Do not use Ryzen Master / remove Ryzen Master SDK from drivers ap.
