AMD Excludes Older Processors from Crucial Security Updates: What You Need to Know

AMD’s latest decision raises a lot of controversy among computer users with their processors. It seems that a serious risk has been partially ignored.

Recently it has been Intel it was in the tongues of PC enthusiasts. All thanks to faulty 13th and 14th generation Intel Core processorswhere selected models may have problems with stability and degradation. This resulted in a loss of consumer trust and a significant decline in the value of the company.

AMD will only help owners of the latest PCs

However, it seems that it is the competition also has a lot on its mind. As we told you last week, Serious ‘Sinkclose’ security flaw found in AMD processors released since 2006. And although the Reds have known about the problem for a long time, only part of the CPU will receive a security patch.

Sinkclose is a big risk because it is successful an attack using this vulnerability remains undetected and difficult to fix. Even the format of the disk will not help, you have to use a physical programmer on the motherboard memory chip or replace it completely. AMD was notified about this 10 months ago.

Of course, the Americans listened to the researchers and software updates have already been released for some processors, and more are on the way. However, it only covers the latest processors. Desktop users with CPUs older than the Ryzen 5000 series are left out in the cold.

Systems such as AMD Ryzen 1000, Ryzen 2000 and Ryzen 3000 as well as AMD Threadripper 1000 and 2000 will not receive the update. Reason? They are too old and the support period has already expired. On the one hand, this is logical, on the other hand, the oldest of them first appeared in 2017 and the youngest in 2020. So they are not ancient.

Of course, AMD may still change its mind due to negative feedback from users and journalists, as was the case with AM4 platforms, were not supposed to support newer processors. Anyway, this behavior is surprising, because… releasing a patch for every system would be a simple way to gain an advantage in the eyes of fans and rub intel’s nose.
