AMD discontinued StoreMI support, but promises to replace it with new technology

AMD officially announced that it will stop supporting StoreMI technology on March 31, which allows you to combine hard drives and solid state drives into a single logical volume. The company also promised to introduce a new version of the technology with improved features in the second quarter of this year.

StoreMI technology was introduced with the Ryzen 2000-series processors (Pinnacle Ridge) and the corresponding 400-series chipsets. Subsequently, AMD added support for the X399 chipset for Ryzen Threadripper, and even later – Ryzen processors of the 3000th series (Matisse) and the X570 system logic.

The technology not only makes it possible to combine hard drives and solid state drives into a single logical volume, but also allows you to take advantage of the high speed of work. This is achieved thanks to the appropriate software that analyzes the data, selects the most frequently used and stores them on a faster drive. AMD developers claim that using StoreMI makes Windows boot 2.3 times faster. As for applications and games, their download speeds up by 9.8 and 2.9 times, respectively.

Starting March 31, StoreMI software is no longer available for download. Users who download StoreMI can continue to use drive pooling technology. However, developers warn that the company’s resources will be redirected to create a replacement, so technical support for the current version of the software will not be provided. AMD also does not recommend downloading StoreMI from third-party resources, since in this case download security cannot be guaranteed. Alternative solutions such as the Enmotus FuzeDrive are suggested as a temporary replacement.
