Got an AMD Radeon card? Watch out for new drivers!
The Americans did not comment on the case for a long time. However, under the pressure of consumers and the media, it was finally confirmed that AMD Adrenalin can damage Windows. However, according to the company, this is rare.
What is the culprit? It is difficult to say unequivocally. AMD recommends avoiding a “clean install” of new drivers. In addition, it advises you to disable any system updates while installing AMD Adrenalin. The company is investigating the matter and working on a better solution to the problem.
We have reproduced an issue that may occur in an extremely small number of cases if you update your PC during the installation of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and are actively investigating. We recommend users to ensure that all system updates are already installed or paused before installing the driver, and that the “Factory Reset” option is unchecked during the AMD driver installation process. We are committed to resolving the issue as soon as possible and strongly encourage users to report issues with AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition via the bug report tool. – AMD
How to check whether the described failure applies to us? It’s quite simple – after installing the new software you will be greeted by the “blue screen of death” (BSOD) and the computer will not start up.
What to do if you are affected by this problem? With good winds, it may be enough to enter the BIOS and set the boot order of data carriers correctly. In the worst case, system files may have become corrupted. Then you need installation media and repair from the console level, which requires some familiarity with the PC and knowledge of commands, or simply reinstalling the operating system.
This is not the first time that AMD drivers play tricks on users. Fortunately, the Reds usually respond to reports quite quickly and efficiently to fix critical flaws in the next update.
