AMD highlights the prices, memory and connections of its models as big advantages
A AMD took advantage of the launch of GeForce RTX 4080 to post a head-to-head comparison between that model and their own line of Radeon RX 7900 graphics cards, confirming that the red side of the dispute isn’t concerned with rivaling the RTX 4090. While gaming performance comparisons aren’t possible yet, AMD has highlighted the benefits of its chips.
In the marketing materials released by AMD, the company clearly tries to highlight the differences in specifications and price between its Radeon RX 7900 and RTX 4080 cards.the price difference between the RX 7900 XTX is US$200, which rises to US$300 in the case of the RX 7900 XT. This with a larger amount of memory, higher memory interface more upgraded Display Port connection version.
Another aspect that AMD emphasized a lot in one of its advertising images was the theme of GPU consumption, more specifically in relation to compatibility with power connections. The company points out that it is “removing the complexity of upgrading to a next generation GPU” with the RX 7900 XTX requiring the traditional two 8-pin each connectors for power.
As mentioned above, it was not yet possible to make a direct comparison between the RX 7900 and its direct competitor – the RTX 4080. However, AMD still shared some gaming performance results comparing the new generation of GPUs with the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which is the most powerful version of the previous architecture (RDNA2). In this data we have noticed a considerably higher performance.
While the RTX 4080 has just been released (we already have an analysis that just came out here on Adrenaline), the Radeon RX 7900 will be released in mid-December. So until then, we probably won’t have many opportunities to observe how these rivals compete in games and other workloads barring any leaks.
