AMD boasted 28W Ryzen 6800U, but against a 15W model

We focus mainly on desktop hardware, so we missed one fact, which he pointed out on Twitter Andreas Schilling. In recent years, we have scolded Intel in marketing presentations, but now Lisa Su has shown herself in an awkward light, showing us how the Ryzen 7 6800U is performing compared to the older 5800U. –

We see up to 69 percent faster video encoding, 125 percent faster 3D rendering, and up to 100 percent higher gaming performance, which are truly remarkable results between a predecessor and a successor that are only one generation apart.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800U there is an APU with Zen 3 and Vega, which has a default TDP of 15 W, which can be configured in the range of 10 to 25 W. Ryzen 7 6800U with Zen 3+ and RDNA 2, the official specifications do not specify the default TDP, but only configurable between 15 and 28 W. That is, both of these APUs can easily work with the same set TDP, although the default will probably be significantly higher for the Ryzen 7 6800U than for the 5800U model, which already indicates a difference in the basic processor clock, namely 2.7 GHz vs. 1.9 GHz. –

However, the footnotes of the tests performed are absolutely crucial and clearly state that the Ryzen 7 5800U worked with its nominal 15W TDP, while the Ryzen 7 6800U had a set of 28 W, which according to the notes is also nominal or default, which corresponds to and specifications.

AMD thus boasts a new APU, which has almost double the limit of consumption and heat output, which is, of course, a crucial figure for assessing performance in the case of mobile computers, which Lisa Su’s presentation did not take into account at all.
