MEXICO CITY – Armed gangs slaughtered at least 13 policemen Mexico in a daytime ambush on the outskirts of the capital yesterday.

Photographs of the grisly scene circulating on social media show police cars full of bullets and unmarked trucks, along with the bodies of police officers strewn along the road or still in cars.

The state’s local security minister, Rodrigo Martinez-Celis, said the convoy of security personnel was attacked in broad daylight by suspected gang members in the Llano Grande area of ​​the town of Coatepec Harinas while they were patrolling the area.

Eight of the officers killed were state police, while the other five were policemen assigned to the prosecutor’s office.

The location of the ambush was southwest of Mexico City and about 64 km south of the city of Toluca, the capital of the densely populated State of Mexico.

“This attack is an insult to the Mexican state. We will respond with all force and legal support, “the minister said in a speech to the media quoted Reuters, Friday (19/3/2021).

The Mexican National Guard militarizes the police and armed forces to search for perpetrators by land and air.

It is unclear how many suspects were killed or injured in the incident, or whether it involved one of the country’s main drug cartels.
