Ambulance Queue at Wisma Atlet Hospital, 200 New Patients Per Day

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) in Emergency Hospital (RSD) Athlete’s House Kemayoran began to experience an increase three weeks after Eid. Data as of June 9 noted that the BOR of the hospital had reached 53.74 percent.

The Coordinator of the Public Relations of the COVID-19 Hospital for the Athlete’s House, Lt. Col. TNI M. Arifin, also confirmed that in the past week there had been a queue of ambulances taking patients. Covid-19 with the majority having mild symptoms.

“Yes, there is an ambulance queue, because it is really busy, but I don’t count how many,” Arifin said when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (9/6).

Arifin said the occupancy condition of Wisma Atlet had been stagnant since March-May with around 1,000 patients being treated. However, 2-3 weeks after Eid, there was an increase in cases which reached 27.5 percent.

To date, Towers 4,5,6, and 7 Wisma Atlet have been filled with 3,221 patients, consisting of 1,549 male patients and 1,672 female patients. Meanwhile, the bed capacity of Wisma Atlet is 5,449.

“This week it has risen to 200 a day. We are on May 17 at the lowest rate, the BOR is only 15 percent because there are only 900 patients,” he said.

If the number of patients being treated at the Wisma Atlet Hospital increases as was the case in January 2021, then Tower 8 and Tower 9 will be reopened to treat COVID-19 patients.

With the conditions that occurred in the past week, Arifin reminded the need for increased treatment incentives at Wisma Athletes.

He also asked the public to always comply with 3M’s health protocols which include wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distance.

“So that it can accelerate the healing of patients who are being treated, so there can be a significant reduction in the number of patients,” he concluded.

For hospital BOR nationally, Chairman of the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPC-PEN) Airlangga Hartarto said the average occupancy rate of hospital beds in Indonesia had reached 40 percent in the past week.

There are five provinces whose BOR has reached above 50 percent. They are West Kalimantan, Central Java, Riau Islands, Jambi, and Riau.
