Ambulance driver charged after E18 accident – NRK Vestfold and Telemark – Local news, TV and radio

The driver of the ambulance that was involved in a serious accident on the E18 in Holmestrand yesterday has been charged with negligence.

– Formally speaking, the driver has been charged, but it is more of a technical nature, says police inspector Magnar Pedersen.

The ambulance that was on call was hit by the car and ended up on the roof in the central ramp at Helland in Holmestrand.

Two ambulance staff were in the car together with an apprentice and a patient when the accident happened.

Undetermined condition

The condition of the ambulance driver who was seriously injured in the accident is still unclear.

The police therefore do not know when they can question the driver.

– It is far too early to say. We hope by all means that he is doing well, says Pedersen.

– Now the focus must rather be on him being well taken care of by a good Norwegian healthcare system.

The ambulance was on call to Oslo.

The patient on board the ambulance was unharmed and was transported on with a new ambulance to Oslo.

The other two ambulance workers were transported to the Hospital in Vestfold.

Investigating the accident

The police are in a phase where they search, secure and gather clues.

– We spent much of yesterday investigating the crime scene. Now there is a review of the car and secure tracks, says the police inspector.

The police are working to get video material from E18.

– It is an area where there are many surveillance cameras. There were people at the scene early on, so I assume there are witnesses, says Pedersen.

He does not have an overview of how many witnesses have seen.

Follows up employees

On Wednesday, the Hospital in Vestfold stated that they prioritize looking after and following up the employees.

The accident affects everyone at the hospital, says clinic manager Erik Nordberg.

The hospital asks for your understanding that they cannot say anything about the condition of their employees.

– This serious accident affects us all, said Nordberg.
