Ambramovich’s yacht is not on the chain because it changed hands just in time

Oligarch Roman Abramovich narrowly avoided confiscating his yacht ‘Aquamarine’ by donating it (temporarily) to a business partner. That writes the British newspaper The Guardian.

‘Aquamarine’, which was built in 2021 by a Dutch company, is about fifty meters long and is estimated at 37 million euros, is currently located in Vlissingen. Until February 24, the yacht was owned by oligarch Roman Abramovich, but on the day of the Russian invasion, one of his business partners, David Davidovich, became the owner. “I can indeed confirm that I am the owner of Aquamarine and also the company that owns the yacht, MHC Jersey,” Davidovich said. The Guardian† Davidovich also became owner of Norma Investments on February 24, which, according to The Wall Street Journal until the time of the Russian invasion was also in the hands of Abramovich.

Ambramovich’s yacht was brought into Vlissingen in November last year to ‘change some structural matters’. Since March 10, the day on which the United Kingdom imposed sanctions against the oligarch, the works have been halted. Only the ship’s crew on board remains at work.

At least five yachts

Last Wednesday, the Netherlands reported that 14 Russian yachts had been seized as part of the EU sanctions against Russia. Twelve of these were still under construction. ‘Aquamarine’ will not be chained for the time being.

Abramovich is said to have at least five yachts in total. Two of his mega yachts have fled to Turkey to evade European sanctions, while two smaller yachts are sheltering from sanctions off the Caribbean island of Antigua. The staff on board would still be working on all yachts.
