Ambon anticipates monkeypox, intensifies prevention from an early age

Ambon (ANTARA) – The Ambon City Health Service, Maluku Province, anticipates the transmission of monkeypox (monkeypox) to the community by implementing clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS).

“So far, no cases of monkeypox have been found, but we remain vigilant as early as possible,” said Head of the Ambon City Health Service, Wendy Pelupessy, in Ambon, Tuesday.

He stated that the disease being discussed was caused by the human monkeypox virus (MPXV) orthopoxvirus from the Poxviridae family which is highly pathogenic.

Preventative efforts are carried out through socialization of PHBS, because for handling and others, it is still adjusting the guidelines submitted by the Ministry of Health.

“The monkeypox virus is related to cleanliness and immunity. If the immune system is weak, it is easy to get infected, so we encourage the public to improve hygiene,” he said.

He admitted that if symptoms of transmission were found, such as having a high fever, muscle aches, headaches, and swelling of the lymph nodes in several areas of the body, immediately go to a health facility.

“Another sign is that spots or chickenpox appear on parts of the body. If you interact directly by shaking hands or coming into contact with people who are exposed to the disease, there will be transmission, so anticipation must be done,” he said.

The public, he said, must remain vigilant, if for example, signs and symptoms are found, as soon as possible to the nearest health facility.

“We remain vigilant with the existing conditions, if similar symptoms and signs are immediately reported to the nearest health facility,” he said.
