With the chill winds continuing to blow in the film and tech worlds, it’s time for Amblin Partners, the production company owned by Steven Spielberg, to lay off staff.asThe Hollywood ReporterAs stated, after recently signing a new agreement with Universal, Amblin will undergo a restructuring, which means that 20% of its staff will be forced to leave, which equates to about 100 people. Spielberg himself has not commented on the layoffs, but has a few things to say as the new deal with Universal is finalized.
“Universal Studios is my ancestral studio, and the next chapter of our long-term partnership will provide Amblin with the creative flexibility and autonomy I know will allow us to achieve success together in the future. I am forever grateful The entire team at Amblin for their work and dedication over the years, and thank you Donna and everyone at Universal for their commitment and collaboration as we all look forward to our next adventure.
We’ve observed similar trends at both Netflix and Disney, which have both been forced to lay off workers over the past 12 months. One might wonder what the hell is going on in Hollywood.
